One the grandest of all festivals in India is held in the coastal city of Puri in State of orissa, India. Highlight is the sacred journey of the statues of the Lord Jagannath of Puri with brother Balabhadra and sister Subhadra from main temple to Gundicha Temple, where they remain for nine days.
The Rath Yatra is also known as Car Festival. 2016 An annual festival it commemorates the journey of Krishna from Gokul to Mathura.It also symbolizes a journey to light from the dark, which commences on the 6th day of the bright fortnight in the month of July.
Lakhs of devotees converge to the city to join festivities lasting for nine days. In this journey, thousands haul the three huge rathas (chariots) carrying statues of Jagannath, his brother Balabhadra and sister Subhadra, down Grand road to the Gundicha Temple-just 2 km away in Puri, Orissa.
Day 01: Bhubaneswar - Puri
Arrive Bhubaneswar and transfer to Hotel in Puri (45 kms/1 hr). Explore the city of Lord Jagannath or see the yatra progress. The rest of the day is at leisure.
Day 02: Puri - Rath Yatra Darshan
Early morning reach your pre- arranged seats on the Grand Road, to view the huge procession in its complete glory. Return to your hotel, evening at leisure.
Day 03: Puri- Bhubaneswar
Arrive at Bhubaneswar, visit the ancient temple of the city. Take a trip to Dhauli site of the famous edict of Emperor Ashoka. Return to the hotel.
Day 04: Bhubaneswar
After breakfast, transfer to railway station / airport for onward juorney.
